Located in the historic downtown streets of Wilmington, NC, this old ice cream/candy shop remains vacant, sharing a lot with another vacant building. Unlike the other abandoned building in this lot, this shop is the resting spot for homeless people who leave behind clothing, alcohol bottles, and other garbage.
With wood boarding the windows and plants growing along the entire building, a look from the side of this old shop allows for one to see just how run down the building has become throughout the years.
By walking in the side door of this old ice cream shop, it is clear to me that this building has not been maintained throughout the years. The ceiling has begun to collapse as well as garbage and plants blanketing the entire floor.
At the top of a brick wall of this old shop lays a broken glass window. The wall is also not as clean as it perhaps was at one point in time.
Old alcohol, Gatorade, and soda bottles are left behind in this once before ice cream/candy shop. Furthermore, this photograph captures the old tile that lines the floor and the old wood walls and shelving.

Adding to the historic feel, this old hair salon/tattoo shop was located in the middle of a run down neighborhood. A "closed" sign still hangs in the window, along with the shop's name on the roof.
A close up of the now vacant hair salon/tattoo shop. The roof is no longer in tact, however the windows and the siding of the building has really kept up throughout the years.
Although this sign seems pretty modern, it was the name outside of an abandoned gas station. The hours are still located on the outside of the vacant building.
Also located outside of an abandoned gas station, this phone booth remains, although there is no longer a phone in tact.
This building was once a two story building, which has over time lost its original structure. The second floor and roof is completely absent and windows are no longer present. The structure, to this day, continues to fall apart.
The base to the second floor of this once two-story building is still present, however, it has lost the flooring itself. The walls continue to fall apart and plants and weeds are beginning to take the place of the fence which encloses the building.
Plants now blanket the grounds of this abandoned building. Plants also grow up the walls and around the original structure of the building. There is visible wear and tear to the entire structure itself.
The front door is no longer present, but the doorway remains. The original brick walls have been painted over with graffiti in some areas. From first glance into the doorway, it is clear that this is not a maintained building.
